Our Mission: To improve childhood literacy in Henry County by providing
free books to preschool children.
Strategy: Ferst Henry is sending out more than 1,800 books each month! Our goal is to be able to afford
to send books out to every single preschooler in Henry County. The only thing stopping us is adequate funding. Every
registered child will receive an age-appropriate book each month until they turn five years of age. Since 2007,
we have sent over 180,000 free books to preschool children in our county.
The books are free to the children, but they are not free. It costs $36 per child, per year, to send 12 age-appropriate,
high-quality children's books and reading guides for parents. That means Ferst Henry has to raise over $5,400 per month
to keep the books flowing to our current registered children.
Our CAT Team: A group
of community volunteers-including business leaders, retired teachers, social service professionals, and other
committed citizens-who know the importance of books in the lives of young readers. Ferst Henry's Community
Action Team leads the fundraising efforts to pay for the books.
Our Sponsor: We are the local affiliate for the state and represent the children of
Henry County. All money collected from our efforts goes directly to providing books for children living in Henry County.
We are sponsored by The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy (http://www.ferstfoundation.org/), located in Madison, GA.
* Books cost $36
We are one of over 80 local affiliates working with the
